Oil from the desert brought to Bournemouth
Karim Berauo, of Moroccan heritage, had four years experience of exporting to the country. He spotted a gap in the market and decided to look into starting up a business with his wife, importing authentic pure Moroccan Argan Oil, direct from the North African desert.
Karim was confident his start-up would be a success. However, he quickly discovered the many challenges to starting a business and soon his dreams of working for himself, began to appear out of reach. After research on the internet Karim found Business West and used their Ready for Business programme. “The advice and guidance was extremely useful, especially the enthusiasm that I received from my own dedicated adviser, Alison.” said Karim. “A good support network like Ready for Business is a great source of value, especially when things get tough.”
Alison met with Karim to prepare a clear and robust business plan that would also tick the lending criteria boxes used by banks and other lenders in making investment decisions. This support was instrumental in SWIG’s decision to award him a start up loan to the value of £15,000.
Morocco Link Ltd was set up in February 2013, and during the first year three mentoring sessions were provided by the programme as well as a further 8 hours of support. They also received a free of charge Chamber membership for a year with access to various information and events.
Karim Berauo is a client of Business West, which supports businesses in the South West.
Under the Ready for Business programme Karim received 14 hours of support, Raised funds for a total investment of £65,000 into the business, and created 1 job.
