Career change with Movement Boutique
The support from Start and Grow has been crucial to the development of my business. Marcelle Fletcher
After moving to Bristol in February 2015 Marcelle Fletcher decided a career change was needed, after working in the public sector for more than 30 years. Having a friend who owned a fashion boutique in London spurred Marcelle to open her own venture down in Bristol. Adding a unique selling point to the boutique she decided to focus on products from ethical and sustainable sources, this differentiated her from not only her friend’s business model but from other competitors based in Bristol.
After working in the public sector for such a long period of time, Marcelle found the transition to running a fashion boutique was challenging. Finding the right sort of brands to stock in the boutique was difficult, and sourcing brands that used natural or organic fabrics and also finding brands that commit to providing a sustainable wage took a lot of time and research. A further challenge faced by Marcelle was the re-stocking of the products.
The £25,000 secured through Virgin StartUp provided Marcelle with the cash she needed to stock the right brands. Marcelle’s mentor is pushing her to make her business a success, with constant advice and support.
When asked if her business could have achieved similar results if she hadn’t taken part in the Start & Grow programme Marcelle said “Not at all, the support from Start & Grow has been crucial to the development of my business.”
Marcelle is receiving on-going support to develop a robust social media strategy with the hope of reaching potential new customers.
