Marriage made in heaven
Vicki and Paul Beamont have over 30 years experience in dealing with customers and when they finished careers in London they wanted to put that experience to good use.
The Winding House is Paul and Vicki’s home and after they held their wedding there, family and friends encouraged them to open up their home for other couples. The house is a spectacular renovation of an old Kent coal heritage building that is over 100 years old.
Paul and Vicki had no experience organising weddings (other than their own) but knew they had a unique venue unlike any other!
Having found The Ready for Business programme online, Paul and Vicki met with Julie Waller to review their business plan and ensure their financial targets were realistic. Having done some research they knew their venue was something new and different to the wedding market but were unsure how best to promote it. Julie encouraged them to set specific goals and targets.
As planning permission was needed for ‘change of use’ it was also critical for them to create a timeline of tasks while waiting for this to be granted.
Trading as Winding House Weddings since April 2015, Paul and Vicki have hosted two weddings to date. Paul and Vicki have plans to eventually host up to 25 weddings a year and offer this advice to other start ups: “Attack each day as if it is a new day especially after encountering problems! There is a lot of red tape to get through but it is well worth the effort!”
Vicki and Paul Beamont are clients of Enterprise First which supports businesses in the South East.
Under the Ready for Business programme Vicki and Paul created 1 job, received 5 hours of support and raised £55,000 to invest in the business.
