It’s no mystery why Alasdair’s business idea was such a success
In nine months we haven’t had an unhappy customer and it’s great knowing that you are delivering an experience that people really enjoy! Alasdair Willett, History Mystery
Alasdair Willett set up Captivate Heritage Ltd, trading as History Mystery in June 2015.
History Mystery provides history-based live escape games, an exciting new way to enjoy a uniquely fun experience with family or friends. An exhilarating hour of interactive puzzles and discovery for 2 to 7 players, based on the real stories of people and places, played in the historic locations where those stories actually happened.
“I was looking for a change after 25 years working in project and programme management and was particularly interested in finding something completely different, but that made people happy.” says Alasdair. “The best thing about this business is that our customers get to have so much fun too. In nine months we haven’t had an unhappy customer and it’s great knowing that you are delivering and experience that people really enjoy!”
The success of the business was helped by the business support that Alasdair undertook. Alisdair had attended a business training course when he started up a previous business which gave him the foundations to enable him to put together a good business plan. History Mystery required further support from Nwes to complete the business plan, and to assist with marketing and securing a start-up loan.
Now, having proved the viability of the business, Alisdair’s vision is to open History Mystery escape game rooms in up to 20 historic cities and heritage venues across the UK over the next 3 years.
Alasdair Willett is a client of Nwes, delivering business support in the East of England.
Under the Start & Grow programme Alasdair received 15 hours of support and invested £9,800 into his business. Five jobs have been created.
